The Return of Marble to the World of Furniture

The return of marble to the world of Furniture comes after a rather long period in which more modern materials such as resins, glass, and acrylic surfaces dominated interior design. In recent years we are witnessing a real renaissance of natural stone in bathroom furniture as well.

Today this precious natural material has made a powerful comeback, thanks to its timeless elegance and versatility.

MOMA Design, always attentive to the latest trends but also linked to the solid traditions of Made in Italy, has been able to reinterpret marble in a modern key, declining it in products such as furniture, washbasins and accessories, combining it with warm woods but also with very particular lacquers and finishes.

But what has prompted the renaissance of marble in contemporary furniture?

Style and Luxury: Marble as a Symbol of Refinement

Marble has always been associated with elegance and luxury. Already used in ancient Rome and Greece for the construction of buildings and monuments, this material has kept its appeal alive through the centuries. In modern home environments, marble represents an element of distinction, capable of enriching any room with its unique appearance. Thanks to its natural veining, each marble slab is a unique piece, capable of transforming a bathroom or kitchen into a true masterpiece of design, unlike any other.

Marble in Bathroom Decor: A Trendy Choice

The return of marble to the world of furniture also passes through bathroom design, one of the areas in which marble has found new life. Marble surfaces are becoming increasingly popular, especially in luxury homes and prestigious hotels, thanks to their ability to create an atmosphere of comfort and sophistication. But even on a smaller budget, a single marble element can completely change the appeal of a small bathroom.

Marble can be used for floors, wall coverings, sinks, shower trays and bathtubs. MOMA Design chooses to go even further, making marble the undisputed protagonist of new furniture collections, employed as a top or even as a supporting structure.

Let’s find out together which finishes are most in demand, from the most common to the most unique.

White Carrara Marble: The Timeless Classic

Among the most popular varieties we always find white Carrara marble, a classic stone that blends perfectly with both modern and traditional environments. Thanks to its pure and luminous appearance, Carrara marble is perfect for creating visually striking bathrooms. It offers a smooth, polished surface that amplifies light and gives a sense of spaciousness.

Contemporary Trends: dark marbles

In addition to classic whites, dark marbles such as black Marquinia, Grey Stone or Emperador are also gaining popularity. These dark colors add drama to the bathroom dรฉcor by creating a bold contrast with metallic elements, such as gold or chrome faucets, or warm woods.

Calacatta Gold, Zecevo, Lipica: light colors for ultra-soft effects

“Cream” colors have always been popular, mainly because they go perfectly with wood. Calacatta marble is a fine variety of Carrara marble, a white marble of Apuan origin. This natural stone offers a unique combination of gray, gold and white veining on a bright white background. The flowing veins and golden effect give a sense of value and elegance. Calacatta Gold is an ideal choice for interiors, capable of balancing cold tones excellently and softening even overly square shapes.

Zecevo is a beautiful marble from the Balkan peninsula, characterized by an elegant beige background and pastel brown veins of varying intensity. Prized and sought after, it is known for its rather limited availability and incredible strength and durability.

Lipica marble is from Croatia and has a most interesting, porous pattern on a beige-gray background.

The return of ancient stones: Travertine

Travertine is an incredibly durable and compact natural stone from central Italy that has always been widely used in construction, so much so that it was the material used for all the most important Roman monuments, such as the Colosseum. It is a porous rock (a feature visible in the microholes characteristic of travertine), whose color can vary depending on the oxides it incorporates, although the predominant color remains the versatile light beige color that made it famous. Although it is not technically and chemically “marble” in the strictest sense, it has been grouped in marbles since Ancient Rome.

Luxurious and rare marbles: the Patagonia

Patagonia is a very rare Brazilian semiprecious granite, as its composition is characterized by different natural materials compressed together by layering over the centuries. This granite of volcanic origin generally has a light color, interspersed with quartzite crystals and irregular veins of strikingly bright colors, ranging from brown to gold.

MOMA DESIGN’S PROPOSALS

Natural stone takes center stage in MOMA Design’s new furniture collections, which chooses to celebrate the return of marble to the furniture world in this way.

The ECLIPSE and ECLECTIC collections, characterized by their rounded sides, can accommodate a marble top of the customer’s choice, combined with countertop sinks also made of marble, or white Solid Surface. The marble tops are a perfect match for the woods used by MOMA Design, such as natural oak (smooth or fluted), Canaletto walnut (smooth or fluted) or matte lacquered MDF, in the many colors of our palette, always in smooth or fluted finishes. These cabinets also lend themselves perfectly to use as sideboards, thus crossing the boundaries of the bathroom to find space in elegant entryways or bedrooms.

In the EXCELLENT collection, marble is even more predominant, as it forms the supporting structure of the entire cabinet, embracing its storage elements. The drawers can be made of wood or bronzed glass, a perfect combination with the preciousness of marble. In the EXCELLENT GLASS PLUS variant, the bottom of the basin is carved into the marble slab, and the glass walls are “set” into the top.

Marble also finds a place in softly shaped countertop washbasins and freestanding washbasins with a fluted wooden column, which can be fixed or opened by sliding doors. Marble can also be used to make tops with integrated square-shaped washbasins, which are extremely popular especially abroad.

But often marble can also be used in small objects capable of adding a chic accent to even the simplest washbasin. For example, MOMA Design offers vanity tops that can serve as countertops or as shelves that conceal built-in storage racks.

THE ADVANTAGES OF MARBLE: SUSTAINABILITY, DURABILITY, ORIGINALITY

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, marble is also a sustainable and durable choice. As a natural stone, marble can be quarried in an eco-friendly way, and because of its longevity, it is a long-term investment for those who want a material that will last. In addition, modern marble quarrying and processing technologies make it possible to reduce environmental impact, making it an ethical as well as an aesthetic choice

Marble maintenance is therefore quite simple, keeping in mind not to clean it with harsh chemicals that can compromise its appearance: so banish corrosive anti-scale products in favor of soft damp cloths and mild soaps.

The return of marble to the world of furniture, and particularly to the world of bathroom furniture, confirms its ability to remain a trendy material, adapting to changes in design and the needs of modern consumers. This is because ultimately Marble is a material that makes living spaces unique. Whether it’s a more classic finish or a bolder choice in color and texture, this material always manages to give spaces a timeless elegance, transforming ordinary rooms into oases of luxury and sophistication.

Opting for marble means choosing a noble, versatile and durable material that can enrich any space in the home with its natural and inimitable charm.

If your desire is to introduce this incredible material into your home, MOMA Design will be able to best advise you.
